GBHS Kosalla, Kumba burns up due to a mysterious fire
The inhabitants of Kosala in Meme Division of the South West Region,
Monday, December 11, 2017,
at about 6:40pm, watched helplessly as Government Bilingual High School (GBHS) in the neighbourhood was ravaged by a mysterious fire.
When the fire broke out, denizens in the neighbourhood alerted the Kumba Army Rescue Unit for it to intervene and contain the inferno.
Within minutes, the Army Rescue Unit van surfaced in the area and made frantic efforts to contain the fire to no avail.
The fire razed the administrative section of the school comprising of the offices of the Principal, Vice Principal and that of the Principal’s Private Secretary.
The fire incident happened 86 days after a similar fire outbreak in the school consumed some 150 GCE certificates of former students.
Even though no official comment has been made on the incident, reports are rife that before the recent incident, security officers on the school campus have been battling with arsonists, as school resumption have gained momentum in the Division.
GBHS Kosala is the second largest college in terms of students’ population in Meme Division, after Cameroon College of Arts and Science (CCAS) Kumba.
Meanwhile, investigations have been opened to uncover the cause of the fire incident which many have linked to the current spate of burning witnessed in the course of the Anglophone Crisis.
It would be recalled that a fortnight ago during a meeting with educational and security stakeholders in Kumba, the South West Regional Delegates of Secondary and Basic Education, Mombakued Victor Yewoh and Dorothy Motase, respectively told South West Governor Benrad Okalaia Bilai that some 56 schools had suffered arson, while 13 others remain under threats.
