Cameroon – Public Management: According to the Cameroonian tax authorities, it is now possible to request the refund of VAT credits online

Within the framework of the partnership between the Directorate-General for Taxes (DGT) and the GICAM, a training session was held on 4 July 2017 in Douala, dedicated to taxpayers belonging to the
Directorate of large companies.
As regards the registration and on-line tracking of applications for reimbursement of VAT credits (value added tax), the DGT has stated that it is now possible to register and follow up the refund claim from home and even via mobile phone.
According to the Cameroonian tax authorities, the overall objective of this application is to improve the business climate through the simplification and dematerialization of procedures. More specifically, it is a question of avoiding congestion at the tax offices, reducing the niches of corruption since the taxpayer is no longer in direct contact with the tax officer and allowing the user to no longer suffer the inconveniences of administrative delays.
Regarding the on-line issuance of the non-fee certificate, it allows the taxpayer to no longer be obliged to travel to Yaoundé to obtain it. It will now be enough to go on the digital platform of the DGT. As regards the periodicity of the accumulation of VAT credits required to make the application for reimbursement, the tax administration shall specify that it is for at least three months. As for the taxpayer in a dispute with the Administrative Tribunal, he is asked to attach to his application an order of suspension of the same court and to continue the procedure.
