Another train derailment on the Kumba-Mbanga railway

Some 300 passengers are still recovering from shock following a train derailment along the Kumba-
Mbanga railway which occurred on Friday, December 8, 2017 around Maboni Village some 8km from the railway station.
According to information gathered, the train left Kumba at 8:00am and was headed for Mbanga when it suddenly went off its rail. Going by officials of CAMRAIL, the runway of the train unusually expanded causing the train not to fit in its known path. The train leaned to the wall causing panic among passengers.
It is reported that at the time of the incident, most of the passengers got frightened as they related the incident to the Ezeka train derailment of October 21, 2016.
Two passenger couches plus one luggage couch was attached to the locomotive in the morning shift.
The incident comes after repeated complaints from the Manager of the Kumba-Mbanga(Reunification Railway Line) over the deplorable state of the locomotives and the entire rail axis.
The incident left hundreds of passengers stranded. Most of those who boarded the train escape bad road such as the Loum-Kumba Road to go about their activities.
Business persons use it as a short course to Douala for transactions.
Meanwhile, Meme SDO, Chamberlin Ntou’ou Ndong, has reportedly make call through to the Minister of Transport, Edgar Alain MebeNgo’o, over the sorry state of affairs in the rail axis. It is reported that the Minister has assured to take immediate measures to step up the quality of the rail line. The SDO and security forces stormed the accident scene after news of it went viral across his administrative unit.
It would be recalled that ever since former President Ahmadou Ahijo inaugurated the said rail line in the late 1960s no major improvement has been made on it.
The same axis has of recent been noted as a routine escape route for thieves from both ends of the country prompting unannounced security checks.
