Patrice Nganang “might” get five years in prison

The Cameroonian writer Patrice Nganang could be deprived of his freedom in the coming days.

Arrested last Wednesday while he was preparing to take a plane at Douala airport, Patrice Nganang would be prosecuted for three counts including false and use of forgery, contempt of the President of the Republic and death threats.
For the prosecution alone, in contempt of the President of the Republic, the writer faces a sentence of five years imprisonment with a fine of up to 20 million FCFA according to a lawyer contacted by our editorial.
In a recent publication on the social media, Christian Bomo, who closely followed the case, said that the reasons for arresting Patrice Nganang were unfounded.

To declare that if one has a weapon, one would fire on the President of the Republic is it punishable on the penal level? (…) If one sticks only to the supposed statements of Nganang, there is no constitution of a criminal intention. It does not appear in these statements that he acquired or tried to acquire a weapon to kill the President, he did not make a plan to proceed to the act “he wrote in a publication on social networks.
According to the latest information, the writer would have also been interviewed yesterday Saturday at the direction of the judicial police for nearly four hours in the presence of his counsel Emmanuel SIMH. He should be presented tomorrow Monday to the Prosecutor of the Republic.
